Why Does MY Food Always Look Better?

I awake Saturday morning, I walk into the kitchen and ask David, “Do you want me to make you something for breakfast? omelet? oatmeal? anything?” David easily responds, “Nah, I’m not really hungry.”

I DECIDE TO MAKE BREAKFAST FOR MYSELF

I pull the bacon out of the fridge and then the eggs and then IT BEGINS.

David: oh, are you making yourself an omelet? (with longing in his eyes)
Me: Yes, would you like one?
David: Yeah, that looks good
Me: No, problem. (I make him an omelet)
Max: MOMMY I WANT EGGIES TOO!
Me: ok, I’ll make you some eggs
Lucy: I want a waffle Mommy – I’m hungry!
Me: ok, hold on, I’ll get that going
Lucy: Are you making bacon? I’d like some bacon
Me: ok, I’m making bacon. Does anybody want Juice?
David: I’d like a cup of milk
Max: JUICE!!!
Lucy: No.

Everybody finishes, pushes away from the table and leaves. I am now staring at a table full of dishes, two dirty skillets, a messy kitchen AND I STILL HAVEN’T EATEN BREAKFAST.

A day will come, a new dawn, a morning when I will get out of bed and make breakfast for myself — and no one else.

  1. Since my mother can’t figure out how to post her comments she emails them to me. I liked this one and thought it was worth sharing.

Yes, the day finally comes when you can make breakfast for yourself and no one else. The day also comes when you can go to the bathroom in complete privacy and you can dress all by yourself without an audience. The day also comes when you can finish something, anything without interruption, but when that day comes, you will find yourself alone. And life is much much better with interruptions. Trust me, don’t be in a hurry to get to that day. Love, Mom

  2. Yes, take heed from your mom, Beth. There WILL be a time when you will have that peace again. But it IS a double-edged blade. You should be savouring these moments because they won’t last.

  3. Oh, I agree with your mother. Don’t wish for that day ONE MINUTE earlier than it is destined to arrive. You are in the most precious season of your life – enjoy being needed! (and you are so good at it).

  4. Ahh, the wisdom of mothers. Time does fly by so fast…revel in the craziness…enjoy those interruptions.

  5. I’m having a rough week and your mom’s words just brought me to tears. Thanks for sharing your thoughts so your mom could respond with hers…I needed that today!

(here through a friend’s blog blogher stuff…you had an interesting title so I clicked through)
